What can I expect The Taro Bar to taste like?

Taro is mildly sweet and creamy, a little like sweet potato with a note of vanilla behind it, and for most of our customers it's a uniquely satisfying bar. Macadamia nuts keep the texture soft and buttery. At 3g of sugar it is one of the least sweet bars we make, with 14g of plant-based protein and 10g of fiber.

What is in The Taro Bar?

The Taro Bar is made with lehua taro root, buttery macadamia nuts and flaky coconut, sourced from regenerative farms in Hawai'i. The protein is a blend of organic brown rice protein and pumpkin seed protein. Contains tree nuts (coconut and macadamias).

How much protein is in The Taro Bar?

One bar gives you 14g of plant-based protein, 10g of fiber and 3g of sugar, at 230 calories. Sold as a 6-count pack. The protein is entirely plant-based, and there are no sugar alcohol sweeteners and no stevia.

Do The Taro Bar contain sugar alcohol sweeteners or stevia?

Never. We are very deliberate about our food philosophy, and sugar alcohol sweeteners are not part of it: no erythritol, xylitol, maltitol or sorbitol, and no stevia, sucralose or aspartame either. Sweetness comes from organic cane sugar, tapioca syrup and fruit, with a touch of monk fruit in some flavors. Monk fruit is a fruit extract, not a sugar alcohol sweetener. Every full size bar has 5g of sugar or less.

Are The Taro Bar vegan and dairy free?

Yes. Every ALOHA bar is certified vegan and made without dairy. The protein is entirely plant-based, from brown rice and pumpkin seed, and the chocolate used across the range is dairy free. The bars are also soy free and Non-GMO Project Verified.

Are The Taro Bar gluten free?

Yes, and we hold a stricter line than the label requires. Every batch of finished product is third party tested for gluten to under 5ppm, where the Certified Gluten Free standard allows 20ppm. Bars are also soy free and Non-GMO Project Verified, and ALOHA is a Certified B Corporation. Certifications differ slightly by flavor, so the badges on this page are the ones that apply here.

What allergens do The Taro Bar contain?

Most ALOHA bars contain tree nuts, usually almonds, cashews, pecans, macadamias or coconut, and several contain peanuts. Nuts earn their place as a source of plant protein and healthy fats. Exact allergens differ by flavor, so check the ingredient list on this page. No ALOHA bar has dairy, soy or gluten in it. Bars are made in a facility that also processes fish, milk, peanuts, sesame, soy, tree nuts and wheat, with equipment cleaned and swabbed between every run.

    The taro bar is my absolute favorite

    I love Aloha bars but the taro bar is by far my favorite flavor. The texture is perfect and the taste is delicious. If you’re unsure on the flavor just try it, you won’t regret it.

    Terrific Tropical Taste

    I am a big fan of taro in general, and this protein bar does not disappoint! I love the creamy vanilla-ish flavor with the coconut and macadamia nuts. Glad I bought two boxes!

    Good New Flavor, But Need More Taro

    I'm a huge taro fan so I couldn't wait to try Aloha's new Taro Bar, combining what I love about Aloha (high fiber, high protein, low sugar) combination. And the new bar is pretty good, there is an earthy creamy quality coming through, but it's more like a subtle sweet potato or yam, compared to the distinct taro aroma and flavors you get from eating taro directly.

    If Aloha can improve the recipe to get more taro flavor, then this would be a new instant classic. But as it is, it's good, just not great like Aloha's amazing Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip.

    Good but prefer other flavors

    This was a really nice bar but I think my favorites are still the peanut butter and almond butter ones. However, I do appreciate the flavor is subtle. And that it has 10 grams of fiber, 14 grams of protein and only 3 grams of sugar.
