A single detox is not always enough—sometimes you have to double down! I picked the brain of our in-house nutritionist to come up with the ultimate detox smoothie. Here is a quick breakdown explaining why we chose these ingredients:
Celery has zero calories and tons of nutrients, making it a great ingredient in a detox smoothie. It is full of “good” sodium, which ensures electrolyte balance—important for detoxification, as your body will hold onto toxins if your balance is off.
Cucumber functions similarly as it also has zero calories. But what is lacks in calories, it makes up for with vitamin-packed hydration.
Avocado is a great source of healthy fat. Healthy fats create hormones that regulate and balance your system—again very important for detoxification.
Green apple is lower in sugar than most fruits and its tart flavor cuts the bitter notes of the other vegetables. It is also high in fiber and works as a natural diuretic, helping toxins to pass more easily through your system.
Spinach’s gentle flavor makes it an easy smoothie add-in. Given its nutrient density, it is a particularly great for a detoxification.
The CDC has named watercress as the most nutrient-dense vegetable. It can be expensive, but a little goes a long way.
Cilantro binds to heavy metals in your body and extracts them, making it a super-detoxifying ingredient. However, the taste is incredibly polarizing—some people have a genetic aversion to it. And that is why we are making it optional!
Chlorella is a green single-celled microalgae that contains the highest concentrations of chlorophyll, which is the healthy part of leafy greens. It also supplies high levels of beta-carotene, vitamin B12, iron, and protein.
