This year we’re doing Halloween without the scary ingredients—all treat and no tricks! This cake is gluten-free, vegan, and packed with protein and superfoods. And don’t be afraid of this scene, it’s actually pretty easy!
ALOHA is on a mission to untangle the web of lies and confusion around what you should be eating. Personally, I’m “sticking” to this cake!
Cake dish and general kitchen supplies
Plastic sandwich bag and scissors
Optional: ALOHA Protein Bar for decoration
1 cup oat flour
1 serving ALOHA Chocolate Protein
1/2 cup almond milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup coconut oil
3/4 cup maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup yogurt of choice + 2 tablespoons for the web
1/2 cup coconut oil
2 packets ALOHA Daily Good Chocolate
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 tablespoon powdered stevia, ALOHA Coconut, agave, or any light colored sweetener
Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat a pan with coconut oil and set aside.
In a saucepan, heat the coconut oil on low until it is mostly melted. Take it off the heat and mix in the maple syrup, cocoa powder, and vanilla—stir until well combined. Add the eggs (make sure the mixture is not too hot before you do this) and whisk until seamless. Mix in the dry ingredients.
Pour the mixture in your pan, and cook for 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the depth of your pan (a smaller pan will mean it needs to cook longer)—under-baking is advisable because it will continue to cook after you pull it out. After removing from the oven, let it cool for 20 minutes.
Mix all ingredients together, minus the light sweetener, in a bowl. Separately combine the yogurt and the light sweetener for the web.
Cut circles out of your cake. I used the mouth of a large mason jar for a stencil, but if you can eyeball it, by all means! Place the circles on a large plate or inside a large dish. Set the leftover cake aside, you will use it to make the “dirt.”
Cover the circles with the superfood frosting.
Place the white web frosting in a sandwich bag and puncture (or cut) a tiny hole. You will squeeze the white frosting through this hole to draw circles on your frosted cake circles starting with a large one close to the edges of the circle and add circles inside that—it will look like a bull’s-eye.
Gently drag a knife from the center of the “bull’s-eye” to the edge—the length of a radius. Repeat until you have a web.
Break-up the leftover cake into small crumbs. Sprinkle the crumbs around the web. Decorate as desired. We cut a spider and ghost out of ALOHA Protein Bars and frosted them with leftover frosting.
